Is it just me, or is jack Kerouac a complete genius and a half? In fact the whole beat generation and their parents for giving birth to them and society for accepting them. I attempt to emulate their style but word keeps automatically capitalizing and correcting my grammar, and it’s sourly ironic. I suppose you can’t ever really consciously write that way anyway, that’s too cliché and to hell with expression if you’re doing it for the sake of it. Blasphemously, he reminds me of steven king, I get the same urge to swear and write profuse amounts of nonsensival ramblings. hence this doodah. i promise future posts will be more gramatically and structurally normal (who made these rules anyway?) but for now in the spirit of the beats, i keep my 'i's with a dot in order that drunk people can distinguish them from the l's. i don't feel egotistical enough to capitalise my i's, it's all too much this early in the morning when i woke up at four and decided that satori in paris would get me back to sleep. instead i stayed up and read it some more, and hello, there, jack i do like you and allen and i'm sure i'll love the rest of you when i get round to it.
everyone acclaims 'on the road', which is what i shall read later if i can find it in the library. in the meantime you will find me in the depths of paris - the phrase whores of babylon seems inappropriately appropriate here so it is sort of inserted slyly - and i shall sympathise with his search for a name, in which naming brings identity no? where does he come from? french-canada, so it's a bit like being home away from home, an argentinian in spain perhaps, or a portugese person, you speak the language like an america in the uk, understood but laughed at behind your back.
thus goes the first
